A lovely sister sang this undeniably plain hymn at my little brother’s funeral years ago. It was an immeasurable comfort to me. As the years passed, I felt it could be presented with a little more color, to illustrate the beautiful lyrics, with the third and fourth verses interchanged to enhance the meaning.
Sheet music PDF: God_Moves_in_a_Mysterious_Way
God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform,
He plants His footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm.
Ye fearful Saints, fresh courage take; the clouds ye so much dread,
Are big with mercy and shall break in blessings on your head.
Blind unbelief is sure to err and scan His works in vain,
God is His own interpreter, and He will make it plain.
His purposes will ripen fast, unfolding every hour,
The bud may have a bitter taste, but sweet, oh sweet will be the flow’r.
